Little League State Titles Finals

Gareth Jones, Tuesday, 3 April 2012

The dust has settled on the 2012 Little League State Titles with three teams having been identified as the teams to compete in the Australian Little League National Championships. Taking out the Regional Championship Far North Coast defeated North Queensland 6 to 4 in the Regional Championship.

In the Championship game Brisbane North and Brisbane South battled through 11 innings with Brisbane North emerging with an 11 to 5 scoreline to clinch the Tournament Championship in one of the greatest Little League games we've seen to date. Our thoughts are with Nick Johnson from Brisbane South who sustained injuries during the game requiring hospitalisation.

Third place was contested by Gold Coast and Brisbane Metro regions with Gold Coast region coming away with a 7 to 5 victory to secure third place.

The two Metropolitan Teams who have won the right to progress to the National Champioships are Brisbane North and Brisbane South with Far North Coast representing Queensland at the National Championships as the Regional Champion Team.

Many thanks to Redlands Baseball Club committee, First Aid staff, Ground staff and Canteen staff for playing host to the tournament and competing teams. Special thanks to Brenda MacDonald for serving as Tournament Manager.

Many thanks must also go to the Coaches, Umpires and Scorers for officiating especially given the introduction of the "60 second rule". Understandably there were a few teething issues but by the end of the tournament we were working fairly close to time.

UPDATE: Nick Johnson has been cleared of any serious injuries and released from hospital. Nick's father Greg says Nick should be healthy in time to play at the National Championships.
